What happened to "EP in America with Joe Theismann"?

Introduction

According to a survey taken in the course of the summer of 2003, a survey of 1000 men, 200 spouses of men with hypertrophy of the prostate, 100 primary care physicians and 100 urologists, Joe Theismann has launched a campaign entitled "EP in America with Joe Theismann. The goal is to educate men on hypertrophy of the prostate.

What is a hypertrophy of the prostate, what are the results of the investigation that Joe for the launch of this campaign, and how the campaign is?

Hypertrophy of the Prostate

Hypertrophy of the prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), developed in most of the men over 50 years when their prostate begins to grow. This growth is due to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is formed when the male hormone testosterone combines with the enzyme 5 alpha reductase.

By becoming larger, the prostate chokes the urinary tract causing men to urinate more often and causing their difficulty in urinating. Other problems that might be caused by this condition completely blocks urine tube of prevention of urination, frequent urinary tract infections, damage to the bladder, stones of bladder and kidney damage.

So you can see, men with this condition can develop significant problems. The survey results were surprising on very few men knew BPH.

Results of the investigation

Here are some of the findings of the investigation:

Only 6% of men interviewed knew that one of the complications of hypertrophy of the prostate is acute urinary retention (inability to urinate).56% of the men believed that having BPH increased their risk of developing prostate cancer.) There is no correlation between BPH and prostate cancer. Most of the men believed that the condition will worsen, when in reality it can be controlled. Most of the men did not know there were drugs available to treat an enlarged prostate. There is also a problem of communication between doctor and patient. Doctors said that they said their patients on possible surgery and that they could control BPH. Only a third of men remember saying this.
